PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: HPV-associated oropharynx squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) is now one of the most common cancers faced by the Otolaryngology community. Treatment strategies for these patients continue to evolve rapidly because of new technologies including intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT), neoadjuvant systemic approaches utilizing immunotherapy, transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and other novel de-escalation strategies. Current treatment approaches vary widely among institutions and national consensus guidelines remain vague. This expert lecture series will review the current best evidence to guide management decisions relevant to general otolaryngologists and head and neck specialists alike with a focus on evidenced-based multidisciplinary management.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To understand recent advances in the treatment of oropharynx squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC).
  2. To describe the current evidence supporting treatment strategies for OPSCC.
  3. To understand the rational application of potential de-escalation strategies to OPSCC.
