PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Congenital nasal anomalies are uncommon yet potentially life-threatening cause of upper airway obstruction infants. As obligate nasal breathers in the first months of life, nasal obstruction can lead to respiratory distress and failure to thrive. Persistent nasal obstruction in an infant is important to recognize, diagnose and treat. Evaluation begins in the clinic but often requires cross-sectional imaging requiring sedation which further complicates the management of these children. Once diagnosed, while some children require urgent surgical intervention, some children may be stabilized with medical management allowing for growth but optimizing this delicate balance is challenging for many practitioners. Surgical management of many of these cases has evolved as the transnasal endoscopic experience expands in children but controversies regarding using surgical adjuncts, such as stents, persist. In this program, we will have an international panel of experts in pediatric rhinology and skull base surgery describe common cause of congenital nasal obstruction. Using cases and videos we will explore up to date medical and surgical management strategies and navigate the complexities of medical optimization when possible. It is our hope that this panel will help provided otolaryngologists with new insights into the management of nasal obstruction in newborns.
