PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Velopharyngeal Dysfunction (VPD) is a complex and often debilitating pathology with hypernasality, nasal emission, decreased vocal intensity, and/or facial grimacing as clinical manifestations. Managed by otolaryngologists in collaboration with speech pathologists, it often has significant psychological and social impact on our patients. A case- based panel discussion featuring leading VPD experts will provide updates on the latest surgical techniques and management algorithms, including unusual and challenging cases. It will identify areas of controversies and future research directions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the basics of VPD evaluation.
  2. Discuss the multidisciplinary medical and surgical VPD management, including patient-tailored surgery.
  3. Recognize some of the challenging and unusual cases of VPD e.g. revision surgeries and patients with craniofacial anomalies.
