PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS) is undergoing a redesign of the Oral Exam for Board certification in the primary specialty of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. This Panel Discussion will describe important details regarding changes to the process, implementation plans, and timeline of the new Oral Exam. This session will be conducted with a brief talk that addresses key details followed by a Town Hall format with ample opportunity for questions from the audience. Leadership from ABOHNS will participate on the panel. The content of this session will be especially relevant for current residents, recent residency graduates, fellows, residency program directors, academic faculty, and attendees interested in physician assessment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To develop an understanding of the rationale for changing the format of the ABOHNS Oral Exam and the key principles that are guiding change.
  2. To describe important details about the structure, process, and requirements of the redesigned Oral Exam.
  3. To describe implementation plans and the timeline for the redesigned exam.
