PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: When nasal packing fails to control epistaxis, what happens next? Over the past couple decades, there have been progressive advancements in both endoscopic surgical procedures and endovascular embolization techniques to address recalcitrant epistaxis. In the past when packing failed, surgical intervention was the next best step, but is that now still the case? With the rise of minimally invasive endovascular embolization, has surgery fallen by the wayside? Join us for a spirited sanguineous debate on the merits and shortcomings of surgical intervention and embolization procedures. Will surgery clip and cauterize its way to the top or has embolization stolen the hemorrhagic crown? When blood flows, which will you choose?

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand and discuss different trends in surgical approaches for managing refractory epistaxis.
  2. Understand and discuss different trends in embolization for managing refractory epistaxis.
  3. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of surgery and embolization procedures.
