Medical Student
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS)
Nickolas Alsup, BM, is a member of the class of 2025 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine, having graduated from Arkansas State University with a bachelor's degree in piano performance and a minor in German. After three delightful years supervising the educational wing of a children's home (King's Ranch of Jonesboro) where he taught and tutored children at elementary and junior high levels, Nickolas began working behind the scenes of surgery in sterile processing - first at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, and then at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. As a technician, he expanded his knowledge and skill set as much as possible, earning all three levels of professional certification available at that time from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association. While he loved serving patients and being part of the surgery team behind the scenes, he began longing for a role with more patient contact - maybe one where he could use the instruments he was accustomed to studying, sterilizing, and delivering to the OR! While remaining employed in sterile processing, Nickolas returned to university part time to complete prerequisite courses for medical school. During this time, he was involved in microbiological research through the Arkansas Biosciences Institute. In 2021, Nickolas matriculated to medical school in Little Rock, where he lives with his wife Jessica and three children who came on board during the journey: Theophilus (8), Alice (5), and Grey (3).
