Evan Patel, MS is a third year medical student at Rush University Medical College in Chicago, IL. He graduated with a BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and completed his Masters in Biotechnology at Rush University. Evan is actively engaged in addressing the healthcare disparities within Chicago and abroad, from assisting in the establishment of Otolaryngology clinics within local homeless shelters, implementing a health-education mentorship program between graduate level students and teenagers living in Section 8 housing, and assisting in the establishment of a hearing aid program in the Dominican Republic. His other research interests include identifying inequities in treatment outcomes for head and neck cancer, allergic rhinitis, asthma, and chronic sinusitis between different patient populations by race, income, zip code, etc. His most recent work involves the exploration of accessibility of otolaryngology care on Native American reservations and novel ways to address these disparities.
