Lama M. Abdurrahman is a third-year medical student (MS3) pursuing an MD degree at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), located within the Texas Medical Center. She grew up in a small border community in South Texas and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). With a strong interest in head and neck surgical oncology and pediatric head and neck surgery, Lama is dedicated to addressing cancer treatment disparities, including acquired resistance prevalent among tobacco users. She is actively involved in Dr. Vlad Sandulache's basic science lab, leading a project on the impact of electronic cigarettes on promoting antitumor immunity. Lama has presented at a national conference on financial disparities among caregivers of head and neck cancer patients. She serves as the Educational Chair for the ENTerest group at BCM and is a medical student member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAOHNS) and the American Head and Neck Society (AHNS).
