Matthew Old, M.D, F.A.C.S is a Professor at The Ohio State University Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and is the current Division Director of the Head and Neck Division and the Director of the Head and Neck Cancer Service Line. He graduated with honors from Stanford University with a degree in Human Biology and earned his MD from the University of Texas-Houston Medical School. After finishing residency at the University of Michigan, he completed a Cranial Base, Microvascular Reconstruction, and Head and Neck Surgery Fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Dr. Matthew Old is currently an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology. He is Chair of the Reconstructive Section of the American Head and Neck Society. Dr. Old was awarded The Joan Bisesi Memorial Career Development Grant and the NIH/OSU Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) Pilot Grant for his research in oncolytic viral therapy. He received the 2011 “Forty under 40 Award” from Business First magazine who each year recognizes the top forty people in the Central Ohio business world who show professional drive and remain active in their communities. He was named to the 2012 Best Doctors in America list and continues on this list every year since then. He has an active head and neck clinical practice, participates in clinical trials, and is actively translating novel therpeutic agents to the clinical arena.
Surgical/Clinical Interests: head and neck oncology, microvascular reconstruction, skin defect reconstruction, skull base surgery, robotic surgery, paragangliomas and carotid body tumors, and thyroid and parathyroid surgery
Research Interests: adenoid cystic carcinoma, HPV and head and neck cancer, novel therapeutics for head and neck cancer, outcomes related to oral cavity and free flap surgery.
