Michael G Stewart MD, MPH is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, and Otolaryngologist-in-Chief at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He also serves as Senior Associate Dean for International Affairs and Affiliations for Weill Cornell. He received a BE summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University, and an MD from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed residency training at Baylor College of Medicine, and received his MPH from the University of Texas School of Public Health, Houston. Dr. Stewart joined the otolaryngology faculty at Baylor after residency, where he served as Director of Residency Education, Chief of Service at Ben Taub General Hospital, and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs for the College, before moving to Weill Cornell.
Dr. Stewart is the author of 2 textbooks, >30 book chapters and >130 peer-reviewed publications. He is the former Editor-in-Chief of The Laryngoscope journal and a former President of the American Board of Otolaryngology-HNS. He is a Past-President of both AADO and SUO, and was an elected member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery from 2011-15. He currently serves as Executive Vice President of the American Rhinologic Society, and just finished a six-year term on the ACGME Residency Review Committee for Otolaryngology.
Dr. Stewart has received research funding from the NIH and AHRQ among others, and he served two terms as chair of the Academy’s Outcomes Research and Evidence-Based Medicine Subcommittee, and 3 years as the co-program chair of the Research Forum for the Annual Meeting. He has received many awards including two Distinguished Service Awards and a Presidential Citation from the AAO-HNS. He has been a visiting professor at more than 35 institutions, and has given more than 500 invited lectures both nationally and internationally.
