1 - Summary of training and clinical interests:
Dr. Marcel Menon Miyake, born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, has a deep connection with the Santa Casa de São Paulo School of Medical Sciences, where he completed his medical degree, residency in otolaryngology, specialization in rhinology, and PhD. Following his specialization in rhinology, he undertook a Research Fellowship at the Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary, under the mentorship of Dr. Benjamin Bleier, between 2014 and 2015. During this time, they conducted a clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of verapamil hydrochloride in the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps. While in the United States, he furthered his interest in clinical research and attended several courses at Harvard Medical School. Upon returning to Brazil, he completed his Post-Doctorate at the Faculty of Medicine of São Paulo University - Ribeirão Preto, during the pandemic, to assess the characteristics of olfactory loss associated with the Sars-CoV-2 virus compared to other respiratory viruses. Currently, he is an attending physician and professor in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the Santa Casa de São Paulo School of Medical Sciences.
2. Accomplishments in the field and affiliations, personal:
Dr. Marcel was one of the founders of the Clinical Research Center in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the Santa Casa de São Paulo, which, among other objectives, aims to enhance the quality of research at his institution. In less than 6 years of existence, this initiative has borne many fruits, with several works receiving national and international awards, as well as students and residents being awarded scholarships. In addition to research, he has a keen interest in endonasal surgery and in treating patients with olfactory loss, being responsible for the development of the first Brazilian olfactory test, under validation.
