Prof Christopher Raine, MBE. BSc, MB.BS. ChM. FRCS (Otol). Consultant Surgeon, Yorkshire Auditory Implant Service, Bradford Royal Infirmary, United Kingdom.
Having developed a subspeciality interest in Otology I established the Yorkshire Auditory Implant Centre in 1990. I have had a career-long interest in cochlear and auditory implants and have published extensively about this topic. Over the last ten years, I have become actively involved in improving hearing health care, regularly spending time in Malawi and neighbouring countries and inviting colleagues to join and support.
I remain actively involved in the Intercollegiate and European Board exams and training at home and abroad. I have held senior posts within our professional organisations including ENT UK and was section of Otology president for the Royal Society of Medicine. I continue to be an advisor to our Government on healthcare policies and a member of the World Health Organisation on hearing reform. I was awarded the MBE by Queen Elizabeth 11 in 2015 for services to the NHS and the Ear Trust charity.
