Joanne Skaggs, MD currently serves as the Associate Chief Medical Officer of the Adult Division of OU Health.
Dr. Skaggs is board certified in Internal Medicine and has worked in primary care and hospital medicine as well as population health.
She first started working within Population Health within Primary Care, and then as a Board Member for the Access Health Advisory Board in Greenville South Carolina, Board of Managers for MyHealth First Network and the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan YMCA in Greenville South Carolina. As such, she focused on broadening care from the individual to the community as a whole and the social determinants of health that create health inequities within these communities and how the healthcare system can deliver care in an innovative way to transform clinical outcomes in a quality-focused, patient-centered manner with community connectivity. Intrinsic to this is shared decision making, care teams, cultural competency, and an understanding of a patient's health literacy. She has helped to design collaborative interdisciplinary teams within the inpatient setting that place emphasis on equitable care, improved patient safety and quality, clinical pathways and ensure that transitions of care always put the patient first.
Dr. Skaggs is involved in patient-centered research that has most recently expanded into social determinants of health, health literacy, reduction of readmissions, interdisciplinary teams. She also designed and implemented team-based comprehensive screening of social determinants of health and community connectivity care model within both inpatient and outpatient spaces in our metropolitan healthcare system.
