Isaac Lalakea Alter is a third-year medical student at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Before medical school, Isaac spent several years working as a pianist and conductor for Broadway musicals including Frozen, Dear Evan Hansen, and Moulin Rouge, among others. These formative years have fueled several of his research interests in otolaryngology, namely evaluating music enjoyment in individuals with hearing loss and understanding the vocal habits of professional and amateur performers. In addition, Isaac is a board member of Q Clinic, a student-run free clinic serving the LGBTQ+ population of New York City, and is involved in multiple research efforts related to voice and communication modification training for transgender individuals. Finally, Isaac is passionate about health care sustainability and is a leader of Climate Resources for Health Education, which aims to provide climate-focused educational materials for use in education across health professions.
