Thomaz Fleury Curado, MD PhD is an otolaryngologist and craniofacial surgeon from University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. He has clinical and surgical experience in the treatment of upper airways and its most common pathology, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Dr. Fleury’s clinical interests include surgical procedures for treating sleep apnea such as functional nasal surgery; soft tissue procedures such as uvulopalatoplasty, tongue base surgery, hypoglossal nerve stimulation; and skeletal procedures such as palatal expansion, maxillomandibular advancement surgery (MMA) and genioglossus advancement. He is widely regarded as an expert in sleep medicine and sleep surgery, ranking in the top percentile of biomedical expert rankings.
Dr. Fleury earned his PhD through a combined program at the University of Sao Paulo and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The PhD was followed by a post-doctorate at Johns Hopkins University, focusing on the development of novel treatments for sleep apnea. He went on to complete a surgical fellowship in sleep surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Over his academic career, Dr. Fleury has received several prestigious awards including the American Heart Association Career Development Award for his work in the field of translational approaches to treat OSA. He has authored numerous internationally recognized peer-reviewed publications, has been prominently featured in international meetings and is the recipient of several scientific merit awards
