(0537) Use of CAD/CAM Designed Gunning Splints for Closed Reduction on B/L Mandibular Condylar Fractures

Introduction: This case details the surgical repair of an edentulous patient with bilateral condylar fractures using virtual surgical planning (VSP) and computer-assisted design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology to ensure individualized care.

Methods: CAD/CAM technology was employed to manufacture Gunning splints, which were utilized during closed reduction of both right and left comminuted condylar fractures.

Results: Reduction of both right and left condylar fractures was achieved. The surgery resulted in restoration of the vertical dimension and function of the mandible.

Conclusions: In edentulous patients, use of CAD/CAM technology can be utilized to achieve restoration of occlusion and function of the mandible by use of Gunning splints. Use of VSP along with CAD/CAM technology enables the surgical team to efficiently practice individualized care, work with more predictable surgical interventions, and achieve quality outcomes.
