PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Demand for gender-affirming facial surgery (GAFS) has rapidly grown in the past decade and is now fairly common nationwide. However, GAFS is often still only performed in specialized institutions or academic settings by fellowship-trained surgeons. While many practicing surgeons did not receive facial feminization training in residency, the techniques of GAFS are within the wheelhouse of a general otolaryngologist and can easily be added to any practice. This panel will provide otolaryngologists interested in adding GAFS to their practice with the tools and know-how to do so. The panel will present an overview of national and international guidelines pertaining to GAFS, insurance coverage and how to bill, the role of non-surgical interventions, and surgical options in the head and neck. The panel will present brief surgical videos demonstrating GAFS techniques such as hairline recontouring and advancement, frontal table setback, feminization rhinoplasty, lip lift, mandibular reshaping, and chondrolaryngoplasty. Further, the panel will compare pre- and post-operative patient photos to help other surgeons better understand what each technique can accomplish. After attending this panel, attendees should have all the necessary tools to expand their practice to include GAFS.

Explain the difference between feminizing and masculinizing features of the head and neck.
Recognize insurance coverage and appropriate billing for gender-affirming surgery.
Demonstrate gender-affirming surgical techniques in the head and neck.
