PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The unexpected invasion of the Ukraine in February, 2022 resulted in a great number of casualties, both military and civilian. Shortly thereafter, there became interest in forming surgical missions to Ukraine to help with the devastating facial injuries that resulted both from military encounters and innocent civilian injuries. In this panel we will review the ongoing efforts of several groups to assist with these interventions. We will discuss logistical issues, the evolution of complex planning required prior to each surgical mission, issues involved when working in an active war zone, the remarkable assistance that we received both from industry and from the Ukrainians, and discuss the types of surgeries that were performed.

  1. to raise awareness of the needs for medical and surgical assistance in Ukraine
  2. to review the types of facial injuries that result from such wars
  3. to discuss the logistical issues involved for such missions in war zones
