PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integrated into the healthcare landscape, including in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery (OHNS), it is imperative to understand and address the ethical considerations and challenges that accompany its use. This presentation aims to explore the ethical dimensions of AI application in OHNS, providing clinicians with a framework to navigate these complex issues.

The session will begin with a brief overview of specific applications of AI in OHNS, such as in screening and diagnostics, clinical decision support tools, treatment planning, and clinical workflows. We will then delve into the core ethical principles - autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice - as they relate to AI.

Key topics to be discussed include:
• Patient Consent and Autonomy: How AI influences patient decision-making and the dynamics of informed consent.
• Data Privacy and Security: Managing patient data, addressing concerns about data breaches, and ensuring compliance with regulations like HIPAA.
• Bias and Fairness: Examining how AI algorithms can inherit biases and the impact on patient care, particularly in diverse populations.
• Accountability and Transparency: Determining responsibility for AI-driven decisions and the need for transparency in AI algorithms.

Case studies will be presented to illustrate these ethical challenges in real-world scenarios. Additionally, the panel of experts will discuss the current regulatory landscape and future directions in AI ethics in otolaryngology.
