By the time a physician becomes a board-certified otolaryngologist, they will have completed eight years of post-high school education and five-to-seven years of postgraduate training. Despite this extensive formal instruction, many physicians still ponder whether pursuing another degree is worthwhile for advancing their career. Building on a successful FLEX (Flexible Lifelong Learning Xperience) podcast offered this spring, the panelists will continue this conversation, sharing their experiences and insights to help others contemplating the same decision. Hear unique perspectives on how these physicians decided to pursue an MBA, MPH, MMM, or MEd alongside their MD. The panelists will discuss how they balanced their advanced studies with the demands of their practice and home life. This session aims to clarify the decision-making process and show how advanced degrees can open doors to rewarding career opportunities in otolaryngology, healthcare, and medical leadership roles beyond our specialty.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review different pathways to obtaining an advanced degree after medical training.
  2. Outline the logistical challenges and hurdles that may be encountered while obtaining an advanced degree.
  3. Explain how advanced degrees can open doors to rewarding career opportunities in otolaryngology, healthcare, and medical leadership roles beyond our specialty.
