Kevin Sykes, PhD, MPH is the Director of Clinical Research at the Baylor, Scott & White Health and Wellness Center in Dallas, Texas. His primary research interests lie in comprehending and tackling the political, structural, and financial factors affecting the health of historically marginalized communities. As a researcher in healthcare delivery and population health, he focuses on identifying and implementing proactive solutions to address health disparities. His objective is to advance community health and well-being for all, regardless of income, location, or race/ethnicity. This work has yielded 110 peer-reviewed publications.
As a volunteer Research Associate Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Dr. Sykes collaborates with faculty, residents, and graduate students on various projects related to health disparities, population health, otolaryngology, and surgical oncology.
Dr. Sykes leads a team at Baylor, Scott & White Health committed to reducing health disparities and addressing social determinants of health in low-income communities in South Dallas. Their center provides comprehensive health services, with a focus on access to primary care, research, health education, nutrition, and physical activity at the Juanita J. Craft Recreation Center. The center offers classes and programs for diabetes, hypertension, and obesity prevention and management, along with a demonstration kitchen and farmstand to enhance nutritional literacy and access to fresh produce.
