Dr. Spiegel grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and graduated from Pennsylvania State University. He received his MD from Jefferson Medical College in 1979. After two years of residency in General Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Dr. Spiegel completed training in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He returned to Philadelphia in 1985, completed a year of specialty fellowship in Laryngology and Professional Voice care, and entered private practice. Dr. Spiegel joined the faculty of Jefferson Medical College in 1985 as an Instructor and has been promoted to Associate Professor. He joined the full time faculty in 2003. Dr. Spiegel has authored many peer-reviewed articles, books and book chapters. He lectures locally, nationally and internationally.
Dr. Spiegel is Director of the Jefferson Center for Voice and Swallowing. He also serves as Quality/Safety officer for the Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University and directs the activities of the department's Quality and Safety Committee.
