Research Scientist
Nationiwide Childrens's Hospital
My name is Jazmin Calyeca. I am a Research Scientist in the Center for Regenerative Medicine at Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Where, I participate in several preclinical projects, whose principal goal is to improve our ability to treat infants with airway defects through the development and application of tissue engineering and computational approaches.
My research experience began early in my career in 2015 when I was pursuing my master’s degree in Experimental Biology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. In which, I continued pursuing my scientific endeavor and completed my PhD studies in Biomedicine. Since then, I have been working in a diverse multidisciplinary environment, proven by my postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh and The Ohio State University. I have devoted myself to the fields of lung and airway injury, regeneration, and tissue engineering. My research interests include airway/lung epithelial cell signaling in response to injury, cell-matrix interactions, fibroblasts role in tissue repair, and leveraging omics approaches to accelerate the development and translation of therapies to the clinic.
