Lieutenant Colonel Scott Bevans is in the US Army and is the Otolaryngology Department Chief at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. His clinical duties as a Head & Neck Oncologist, Microvascular Surgeon, and Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon include ablative head and neck cancer treatment, microvascular surgery, facial reconstruction, and cleft/craniofacial surgery. He is married with two daughters.
His medical school training was at Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland, followed by an otolaryngology residency at Madigan Army Medical Center, in Tacoma, Washington. After residency, Dr. Bevans completed the Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle, training under Wayne Larrabee, Craig Murakami, Kris Moe, and Amit Bhrany learning microtia, cosmetic, and facial trauma/reconstructive surgical techniques. He then completed the Head and Neck Oncology fellowship at the University of Washington focused on ablative oncology, robotic surgery, and free tissue transfer under the mentorship of Neal Futran, Eduardo Mendez, and Jeff Houlton. After finishing his fellowship training, LTC Bevans was stationed at the military's only level 1 trauma center (Brooke Army Medical Center) in San Antonio, Texas. During his tenure there, LTC Bevans served as the Chief of Facial Trauma Surgery treating military and civilian facial trauma patients, and running a multi-specialty, multi-institution, facial trauma board. While stationed in San Antonio, he had the privilege of deploying to Iraq as a member of a Head and Neck Trauma Team and helped develop a pre-deployment trauma training program for military surgeons. LTC Bevans is an AO faculty and previously served as the Trauma Committee Chair for the AAO-HNS.
Dr. Bevans is additionally passionate about surgical education in low-middle income countries and has been privileged to be a part of a cleft and microtia mission to Cambodia for the past 10 years.
