Matthew Wiefels is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine who is applying for ENT residency for the 2024-2025 Match application cycle. He received a BS in biochemistry from the University of Miami in 2019. Prior to starting his fourth year, he completed a research year funded by the NIH/NIDCD R25 Miami Otolaryngology Surgeon Scientist Training Program. For his R25 research grant, Matthew and his team studied the off-label efficacy of specific drugs as radiosensitizers to improve outcomes for patients diagnosed with vestibular schwannomas, particularly in those that exhibit resistance to radiation therapy.
