Dr. Jefferson is a distinguished Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she leads a dynamic Head and Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery practice. Her journey in the field began with residency at Loma Linda University and a fellowship at the University of Miami, culminating in a dedicated career at the University of Mississippi.
Dr. Jefferson is a passionate leader seeking to ensure the optimal outcomes for her head and neck cancer patients. She has led initiatives for establishing an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol and an Adult Tracheostomy Pathway at her hospital. She continues to advocate for other collaborative models of healthcare delivery.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Jefferson is passionately involved in educational initiatives, notably spearheading the development of the flipped classroom model for lectureships, and recently a health equity curriculum for the residency program.
Her commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion is evident through her role as Chair of the American Head and Neck Society Diversity Service, where she champions opportunities for underprivileged students to explore and pursue careers in head and neck surgery.
Dr. Jefferson's overarching goal is to advance equitable care and outcomes for head and neck cancer patients by championing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the medical community, specifically in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
