Katherine K.S. Rieth, MD, MPH, MA is an assistant professor of Comprehensive Otolaryngology at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York. Undergraduate training (BA) in cultural anthropology completed at UC San Diego, followed by a Masters degress (MA) in Medical Anthropology at the Univeristy of Hawaii at Manoa. Medical School completed at University of Hawaii, followed by residency training in Otolaryngology at the University of Rochester. Masters in Public Health completed at the University of Rochester School for Medicine and Dentistry. Voting member of the AAO-HNS Ethics Committee. Research interests include health disparities, global health/surgery, and mixed methods research. Regions of interest include Upstate New York and the Pacific Islands (Micronesia, Polynesia). Dr. Rieth has an academic background in cultural and medical anthropology, with a specific interest in marginalized populations and the theoretical framework of political economy applied to surgical care and otolaryngologic issues, such as head and neck cancer. She was awarded the Triological Society Career Development Award to study tobacoo cessation for head and neck cancer patients in rural communites. She is an aivd martial artist, archer, equestrian, and traveler, as well as mother of two boys.
