Dr. Dodson is a Professor of Otology, Neurotology & Cranial Base Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology at the Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University. A faculty member since 1996, Dodson was born at the University of Virginia hospital and grew up in a small town in the Shenandoah National Park area of Virginia. He attended Wake Forest University for one year before returning to the University of Virginia, where he completed his undergraduate education. He continued at UVa from 1985 –1996, during which time he obtained his medical degree (1989) and completed a 5 year Otolaryngology residency program (1994) and a 2 year Otology/Neurotology fellowship (1996). Dr. Dodson also has an adjunct faculty appointments in the Department of Speech and Hearing Science and the Department of Neurosurgery at OSU. His practice entails the medical and surgical treatment of ear diseases and associated hearing loss. Additionally, he remains active in clinical research.
In 1995, Dr. Dodson joined his mentor, Dr. Paul Lambert, on the inaugural Project EAR medical mission to the Dominican Republic, providing hearing healthcare to the underserved population in the country and educating local doctors and healthcare workers. Since then he has led 47 of the 56 Project EAR trips, and has served as president of the organization since it became an official non-profit organization in 2000. Since its inception, Project EAR has performed over 1200 major ear surgeries and dispensed hundreds of hearing aids. In 2006 Dr. Dodson helped establish the first cochlear implant program in the Dominican Republic.
