Chief of Otolaryngology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Director of the Pediatric Voice Program, Dr Zur holds the E. Mortimer Newlin Endowed Chair in Pediatric Otolaryngology & Human Communication. She is a Professor of Otorhinolaryngology: Head & Neck surgery at Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
A former ballet dancer and classical pianist, she graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Neuroscience and then pursued her medical education at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. She completed an Otorhinolaryngology:Head & Neck surgery residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in NY followed by a 2- year pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where she founded the first comprehensive, data-driven multidisciplinary Voice Clinic at a Children’s Hospital in the U.S.
She has been at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for the past 19 years, and during her tenure there founded the
first Pediatric Voice Clinic at CHOP. Her current clinical research focuses on the impact of prematurity and intubation on the voice outcomes of children with unilateral vocal fold immobility and the outcomes post recurrent laryngeal nerve reinnervation. She has pioneered the use of intravenous bevacizumab for the management of laryngotracheal/pulmonary papillomatosis in children in the US and is an avid proponent of ergonomics in the practice of medicine. She has served on national and international society boards, including as President of the American Broncho- Esophagological Association (ABEA).
Dr Zur is the proud mother of 15-year-old twin daughters, and as a surgeon with a busy aerodigestive practice, she sees the impact and importance of healthy eating as well as the role that reflux and gastrointestinal issues play on a child’s ear, nose, throat and airway problems.
