Associate Professor

Philadelphia, PA, United States
There are two facets to my work at the University of Pennsylvania. As a surgeon, I am part of a multidisciplinary team that treats patients with all types of head and neck cancer as well as benign tumors. As a scientist, I lead a lab focused on helping patients with squamous cell carcinoma, the most common head and neck cancer. In doing so, we are seeking more effective targeted therapies for the most aggressive forms of this disease that fail current therapies. We are also pursuing less toxic therapies for the growing number HPV virus-related cases of squamous cell carcinoma, which are less lethal but leave lifelong disabilities in survivors after high dose radiation and chemotherapy. My dual roles support use of tumor materials obtained from surgical practice as preclinical research tools to improve clinical trial design.
