Bennett Schackmuth is a second-year M.D./Ph.D. candidate at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Baylor University, where he previously researched the effects of short-chain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and diesel exhaust particles on gene expression profiles and blood-brain barrier transporters, respectively. Bennett is an active member of the Texas Medical Association and serves as the alternative delegate on the Committee for Infectious Diseases, where he works to advocate for the improvement of health care for Texans as it pertains to infectious diseases. Bennett is currently researching the effects of HIV on the microvasculature for his doctoral work and is interested in finding ways to connect his doctoral work to his future clinical practice and further exploring the field of Otolaryngology as he continues his career in medicine. He looks forward to sharing his insights at the AAO-HNS conference and advancing the field Otolaryngology as he continues his academic journey.
