Renee Banakis Hartl is an Assistant Professor of Otology and Neurotology in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Michigan. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Banakis Hartl completed a clinical doctorate degree in Audiology at Northwestern University. She subsequently completed residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Colorado, and she then went on to complete advanced fellowship training in Otology and Neurotology at the University of Michigan. Her current research program focuses on improving metrics of binaural function and examining the benefits of auditory devices for performance on tasks of binaural hearing, with particular attention to outcomes for individuals undergoing medical or surgical rehabilitation for single-sided deafness.
