PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This is an international symposium featuring the latest innovation in head and neck oncology including Boron neutron captured therapy (BNCT) and Photoimmunotherapy (PIT). BNCT and PIT has been developed as the less invasive therapy for head and neck cancer with maximum local effects. Both treatments are approved by Japanese FDA for unresectable locally recurrent head and neck cancers. PIT is also available for unresectable locally advanced cancer. We have experience of more than 400 PIT treatments in Japan. The phase I/IIa clinical trial in the US indicated a good response of PIT for more than 80% of the patients. PIT is now under phase III clinical trial in the US. This symposium will discuss the indication, effects, adverse events, and management of AE in BNCT and PIT. It is also important to understand how to combine BNCT or PIT with other systemic treatments such as immunotherapy and molecular target therapy.

Learning Objectives:

Learn the mechanism and indication of BNCT for advanced head and neck cancer. BNCT is usually applied for unresectable recurrent cancer, and works well for reduction of the cancer with minimal damage to the surrounding tissues.
Learn the mechanism and indication of PIT for advanced head and neck cancer. PIT can achieve pinpoint attack to the cancer with minimal damage to the surrounding tissues, but the management of adverse events is critically important.
Understand and discuss how to combine BNCT or PIT with other systemic treatments such as immunotherapy and molecular target therapy.
