PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The demands of healthcare delivery have increased in the post-COVID era due to decreased staffing, lack of continuity of care, and often fractured systems. Despite its importance for patient safety and quality, communication continues to be strained, incomplete, and often dysfunctional, leaving both providers and patients frustrated and overwhelmed. Strategies to enhance communication and emotional connection have demonstrated positive effects, including decreased staff turnover and burnout, increased patient satisfaction and better outcomes. This interactive session will specifically address communication strategies that can positively transform encounters with the difficult patient and family. Be ready to participate!

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explore the challenges healthcare institutions face in maintaining efficient, compassionate, and collaborative environments in a post-COVID world.
  2. Discuss and demonstrate strategies to improve relationship-centered healthcare delivery through effective communication.
  3. Practice specific communication skills in small groups using actual participant-generated scenarios experienced with difficult patients, family members, and colleagues.
