Jennifer Shin, M.D. S.M. serves as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at Harvard Medical School, serving the main quadrange and 15 clinical affiliate organizations, including Boston Children's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Cambridge Health Alliance, and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear. This work includes leading the Harvard Medical School Promotions and Reappointments Committee, as well as the Longer Service Committee, and the Assistant and Associate Professor Team within the Office for Faculty Affairs. Dr. Shin has a longstanding interest in outcomes research and evidence-based practice and has served as chair of the Outcomes Research and Evidence-Based Medicine Leadership Group and Committee for the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. She has also served in the leadership for multiple clinical consensus statements and clinical practice guidelines, and is currently serving as chair for a national guideline in surgery. She is the lead editor of two textbooks and has authored more than 180 publications, reviews, and chapters to advance and refine practice. Prior to her work in the Dean's office, she served concurrently as the Vice Chair for Academic Affairs at Longwood for the cross-hospital Harvard Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, as well as the Vice Chair for Faculty Development in the separate Department of Surgery.
Dr. Shin received her undergraduate degree from Harvard College and her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She completed residency at the Harvard Program in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, followed by a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology. She holds a master's degree in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health, where she has taught regularly for over a decade. Her clinical practice is focused primarily on otology, sinonasal diseases, pediatric and comprehensive otolaryngology, and she has been selected as a Master Clinician by her physician peers.
