As a surgeon-scientist, my clinical practice focuses on rhinology and sinus surgery. I head a NIH-funded basic and translational research program studying damage and repair in the olfactory system; how Alzheimer's impacts the peripheral olfactory structures; activity dependent changes in human olfactory cells; and biology of olfactory neuroblastoma. A broad goal of this work is to identify new treatment strategies for pathologic conditions impacting the peripheral olfactory system. I serve as Vice Chair for Research and program director for the R25 otolaryngology research track residency at Duke.
