PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Branchial anomalies are the most common congenital lateral neck masses in children. They can occur as sinuses, fistulae, or cysts. Branchial anomalies have traditionally been categorized as deriving from first, second, third or fourth branchial arch structures, coursing deep to the derivatives of their own branchial arch and superficial to derivatives of the next branchial arch. The firmly held belief in the embryologically ordered arrangement of anomalies has been challenged in recent years. Moreover, while surgical management remains the mainstay of treatment, over time, open surgical resection has given way to new minimally invasive techniques. Finally, while children are often referred to otolaryngologists with draining sinuses or visible neck masses, many children present with infections which further complicate their management. This international panel will include experts in pediatric head and neck surgery to discuss controversies in the anatomical descriptions of branchial anomalies and how this impacts management. Using cases and videos, we will provide up to date information on the management of branchial anomalies and common pitfalls that may occur.
