PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Glottic insufficiency, also called glottic gap, is a common cause of dysphonia, producing symptoms of soft voice, decreased projection, and vocal fatigue. Treatment of glottic gap can include surgical and rehabilitative therapies. The challenge often lies in choosing the optimal approach for a particular patient. This session with provide an overview of the pathophysiology of the Glottic Gap and facilitate practice with the decision-making involved in caring for these patients, both adult and pediatric. Emphasis will be placed on the accurate diagnosis of the cause of the glottic gap and on factors which drive the choice of one treatment modality over others, in a specific patient. The session will involve review of real patient examinations with interactive treatment planning.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the impact of a glottic insufficiency on laryngeal function/voice production.
Interpret Videostrobolaryngoscopy and identify the cause of a glottic gap.
Engage in simulated shared decision-making to formulate treatment plans for patients with glottic gap.
