PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Private equity is one of the newest strategies employed by private practice physicians to grow and sustain their practices. The practice of medicine has come under pressure for various reasons over the last 100 years, and that continues today. Now more than ever, private practice physicians have to deal with an ever-increasing administrative burden, complicated compliance concerns, and complex payer negotiations. These issues are further compounded by the current trend toward large group practice that draws new graduates to hospital and academic centers to avoid these headaches. This panel will discuss the place private equity, a larger group practice and working with a hospital system can have in the creation of a well-functioning and financially stable practice, the history of changes in medicine that got us to this point, how we, as physicians, must remain involved in the decision-making process to preserve the quality of care in the face of financial pressures and what the future may look like for private practice.
