A panel discussion comprised of active duty participants from the tri-services, retirees and civilian providers will discuss current practices for active duty implanters and those who have transitioned to civilian practice. Upper airway implantation is becoming increasingly more accessible to patients as an option for treatment of moderate to severe sleep apnea. As such, criteria for implantation in our specialized military and VA-eligible population must be established. This panel will focus on the demands of implanting active duty military service membranes and VA-eligible retirees in addition to sharing best practices for streamlining care for these patients both in the military and civilian setting. The panel will also focus on best practices for implanters who are transitioning from military to civilian practice.

  1. Share best practices for implantation in the military treatment facility, VA facility and civilian settings.
  2. Establish military and VA-specific roadblocks to implantation.
  3. Establish future goals for successful implantation of active duty personnel.
