Romaine F. Johnson MD, MPH, FACS, is a Professor in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center and is the Director of the Otolaryngology Quality and Safety Program. He holds the Beth and Marvin "Cub" Culbertson Professorship in Pediatric Otolaryngology. He is also the Editor in Chief of Laryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, the Triological Society's open-access journal.
Dr. Johnson earned his medical degree at the Drexel University School of Medicine. He completed an otolaryngology residency at the Baylor College of Medicine and a pediatric fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical. Dr. Johnson received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lincoln University of Pennsylvania and a Masters of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Dr. Johnson's research interests include pediatric tracheostomy, peritonsillar abscess, subglottic stenosis, obstructive sleep apnea, vocal cord paralysis, quality improvement, and airway simulation. His clinical interests include pediatric aerodigestive disorders.
Dr. Johnson is a Fellow of the American Laryngological, Rhinological, and Otological Society (aka The Triological Society); the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery; and the American College of Surgeons, as well as an active member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology, the American Broncho-Esophagological Association, the American Laryngological Association, the Harry Barnes Medical Society, the National Medical Association, and the Society of Black Academic Surgeons. He is a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
