Dr. Heather Weinreich is a board-certified otology, neurotology, and skull base surgeon. Her path to medicine began as a data and research analyst for Optum, a division of UnitedHealth Group where she became interested in population medicine and epidemiology. She obtained a Master in Public Health degree followed by medical school at the University of Minnesota. Loving all things ear-related, she completed a residency in Otolaryngology from the University of Minnesota. She then traveled to Baltimore for a fellowship in neurotology at Johns Hopkins University and stayed on as a faculty member until 2017. In 2018, Dr. Weinreich moved to Illinois and became a faculty member at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She is a former UIC NIH K12 BIRCWH scholar whose research focused on the role sex differences play in the design and safety of surgical instruments and medical devices. Her lab was a collaborative effort between the Department of Otolaryngology and human factors engineers from the College of Engineering.
